Framing lumber trading was subdued as October drew to a close. Many
buyers said they were limiting purchases and adhering to the adage
＾to be lean by Halloween.￣ Some were determined to avoid any
late-year missteps that would undermine what has been a profitable
year. With month-end discounting and producers opening to counters or
trimming quotes to sell production, the general trend in prices tilted
downward. The Random Lengths Framing Lumber Composite Price slipped
for a second straight week.

Random Lengths Panel Market Report
Structural panel prices showed mild shifts amid lackluster
trading. Following modest upticks the past couple weeks, prices of
OSB flattened at the end of October. Most buyers reported that they
had covered their near-term needs and returned to the sidelines.
Southern Pine plywood sales plodded along, and prices were flat or
showed modest adjustments. Western Fir plywood mills quoted last
week¨s published levels, but most opened to counters on sheathing
to extend order files in the face of spotty sales.
