Random Lengths Lumber Market Report

The tone of the framing lumber market firmed as the week progressed, and most prices finished flat or with an upward tilt. Traders had varied opinions on the catalyst for a limit-up move in futures on Thursday. But it pulled some buyers into the cash market, while many secondaries saw it as an opportunity to move off speculative purchases or clean up loose ends in advance of absences for Easter observances, including Good Friday and Easter Monday in Canada. Trends were mixed, but gains easily outran losses.

Random Lengths Panel Market Report

Trends in structural panels were mixed. Another ho-hum week of trading left most OSB prices unchanged. While many offices were short-staffed due to Good Friday observances or spring break, the market maintained some liquidity. Brisk sales at the distribution and retail levels pulled Southern Pine plywood buyers back into the market to replenish inventories. Western Fir buyers in the Northeast acknowledged more favorable weather late in the week. They placed orders to unclog inventories at reloads.
