Report
Sales of framing lumber were a mixed bag. The overall trend, as
measured by the Random Lengths Framing Lumber Composite Price, tilted
slightly upward. But softness crept into some prices. Keeping
inventories reined in was the midsummer mantra of many buyers, who
also expressed wariness about current prices and the strength of mill
order files. Hot weather and vacations also had traders citing the
＾summer doldrums,￣ while two industry gatherings pulled traders
out of their offices during the week.

Random Lengths Panel Market Report
A catastrophic fire that destroyed Swanson Group¨s Springfield,
Ore., plant Thursday kept the phones active in plywood markets.
While plywood traders were busy Friday morning assessing the impact
on the market and their businesses, few new orders were booked. Most
western Fir producers reported that they were off the market, while
some bumped quotes by double digits and pulled a few orders in. OSB
prices, however, were flat to down, reflecting the disparity between
structural panel markets.
