Random Lengths Lumber Market Report

Increased sales buoyed traders¡¯ confidence and generated one of the busiest trading weeks in months. Prices firmed and then gained across all key framing lumber species. Traders cited several reasons for the stronger tone. These included sawmill curtailments around the recent holidays, a pickup in overseas sales, thin inventories, and the prospect of the export tax returning in August on Canadian shipments to the U.S. The Random Lengths Framing Lumber Composite Price rose for a third straight week to $335.

Random Lengths Panel Market Report

Structural panel sales kicked into high gear. Sensing that prices had found a bottom, OSB buyers stepped in at midweek to address thin inventories. Sales accelerated in varying degrees, depending on the region, and prices reacted accordingly. A solid week of sales buoyed the spirits of Southern Pine plywood producers and their customers. Several mills extended order files into the first two weeks of August. Trading in western Fir plywood was active from the start, and many producers and traders reported their best weekly results in months.
