Report
Producers headed into the holiday weeks in firm control of most
framing lumber markets. Solid order files, holiday downtime, and
optimistic expectations for the first quarter generated a bullish
tone. This prompted more buyers to get off the fence and cover January
needs. The November U.S. housing starts report also buoyed confidence,
and traders said it was the catalyst for some customers strengthening
their positions on the long side. The Random Lengths Framing Lumber
Composite Price rose $5, to $384.

Random Lengths Panel Market Report
Structural panel markets approached year-end on solid footing. It
came in fits and starts, but sales of OSB picked up in most parts of
North America. At the leading edge of the upward trend was the
Pacific Northwest. Southern Pine plywood producers were content with
the week¨s steady sales pace, and prices maintained an upward
tilt. Western Fir plywood mills booked enough orders to push files
solidly into January, and modestly lift prices of most panels.
