Framing lumber traders closed out July quietly. Sales were
uneventful, and price moves in either direction were usually modest.
Mills opened to counters when they had to, but month-end specials were
generally thin. Dealers kept a sharp eye on inventory levels, avoiding
all but must-have purchases. Traders at all levels were wary of the
market¨s near-term course. Some referred to the protracted stretch
of flat pricing as ＾a wholesaler¨s nightmare.￣ The Random
Lengths Framing Lumber Composite gained $1.

Random Lengths Panel Market Report
Structural panel trading shifted in both directions. Mill sales
of OSB picked up Thursday at some plants, but prices in most regions
remained in a flat to down mode. Southern Pine plywood mills held
the upper hand in negotiations with customers, supported by order
files that reached the week of August 18 or beyond. Sales for the
week lagged production at most mills. The pace of western Fir
plywood sales backed off from the past two weeks as buyers had
covered most of their immediate needs, and digested recent
purchases.
