The tone of the framing lumber market firmed on Wednesday, as a
pickup in sales eased downward price pressure on many items. Gains in
futures on Wednesday and Thursday were a catalyst, but thinning
inventories across the distribution system were the primary driver.
Expectations for brisk October business in some regions also buoyed
sales. The week¡¯s activity helped mills stem the market¡¯s recent
slide, but early week losses still left many prices lower for the
week. The Framing Lumber Composite Price fell $4.

Random Lengths Panel Market Report
Structural panel prices were firm amid conservative trading.
Prices of OSB showed more stability at the end of the week. In
nearly all producing regions, panels finished at last week¡¯s
prices or flattened at midweek levels. Southern Pine plywood sales
were at a calmer pace compared to last week, but producers¡¯ solid
order files kept prices firm. Most mills quoted shipments for the
week of October 20 or beyond. Western Fir plywood buyers
purchased cautiously, but regularly, and mills booked another solid
week of sales.
