While buyers remained cautious, the market¨s momentum shifted more
decisively in favor of producers. In the West and Western Canada,
block sales to overseas customers reduced pressure on mills to push
loads into domestic markets. Action in the South showed more spark,
led by wide dimension on the westside and 2x4 in the other zones;
summer rains that had drenched key markets in August relented, lifting
consumption and trader morale. The Random Lengths Framing Lumber
Composite Price rose $4, to $354.

Random Lengths Panel Market Report
Structural panel sales were sluggish. A pedestrian sales pace
left most OSB prices flat. Buyers purchased cautiously. News of
Louisiana-Pacific Corp.¨s acquisition of Ainsworth was a frequent
topic of conversation. Ho-hum sales following the holiday
disappointed Southern Pine plywood traders, and most rated sheathing
prices softened. Traders widely agreed that field inventories were
light. Western Fir plywood mills turned in a mixed week of sales,
with sporadic demand after a slow start.
