Random Lengths Lumber Market Report

Framing lumber sales were a grind, and price cracks that developed last week and in early trading widened. Several producers noted the slowest sales week of the year. More winter-like weather caught much of the blame in northern states. Weather was also a factor in other regions, as severe thunderstorms raked the Ohio Valley and the Southeast. Weakness was most focused on #2&Btr dimension and 2x4 9-foot studs. Upper and lower grades were more resilient. The Random Lengths Framing Lumber Composite Price slipped for the first time in 10 weeks.

Random Lengths Panel Market Report

Structural panel trading slowed. Shrinking order files prompted some OSB producers to call their customers looking for offers. This scenario was most common in the South, where loads were readily available for shipment over the next two weeks. Trading in Southern Pine plywood was quiet all week, but sheathing prices were firm to higher based mostly on mill order files that often stretched into May. Most western Fir plywood traders reported an inconsistent week in sales, with the bulk of activity taking place Monday and Tuesday.
