U.S.: Lumber and panel market report ---- Week 13 2013

Random Lengths Lumber Market Report

The pace cooled in framing lumber, but mills largely stayed in firm control, with order files extending into April. Nonetheless, a falloff in orders over recent weeks brought shipment times closer in on some items, and a few mild discounts on random dimension cropped up here and there among mills wanting to move loads that developed for prompt shipment. Even so, gains overwhelmed any weak spots, and the Random Lengths Framing Lumber Composite Price gained $9, to $441.

Random Lengths Panel Market Report

Southern Pine plywood led the way in structural panel trading. Little changed at the mill level in OSB markets. Manufacturers¡¯ lengthy order files remained a dominant feature supporting prices. Demand late in the week pushed some Southern Pine sheathing prices sharply higher. Recent reductions in output at a few plants continued to play a role in keeping prices on an upward path. Weather in the Midwest and Northeast weighed on western Fir plywood mill sales.
