Random Lengths Lumber Market Report

A perception that most framing lumber prices had bottomed gained support, particularly toward the end of the week. Buyers took some reassurance from solid upward moves Wednesday and Thursday in futures, and reports that offshore markets had purchased significant volumes. Prices finished mixed; wider-than-usual spreads were evident in some items as mills approached the market with varied strategies. Prompt loads drew the most interest as many buyers remained leery about being at the end of a mill¡¯s order file.

Random Lengths Panel Market Report

The recent downward spiral in structural panel markets moderated. Although OSB traders reported that the tone of the market had improved in some Southern regions, reported prices finished lower by double digits for a sixth consecutive week. While many Southern Pine plywood prices finished lower, the tone of the market was more upbeat Friday than at the start of the week. Traders widely agreed that prices had bottomed. The western Fir plywood market took on a more upbeat tone with stronger sales as the week progressed.
