Any hopes for a round of purchasing of framing lumber following the
long holiday weekend in the U.S. were dashed. A string of weakness in
the futures market contributed to the cautious tone, while some
traders cited price spreads between species, and month-end discounting
for their wariness. Transportation issues and uncertainties kept
traders off balance and guessing about the market¨s next move.
Weighed down by Western S-P-F, the Random Lengths Framing Lumber
Composite Price slipped $1.

Random Lengths Panel Market Report
Structural panel trading was lethargic in the short week. OSB
sales were quiet coming out of the holiday in the U.S., and prices
drifted lower in varying degrees, depending on the region. In
Southern Pine plywood markets, rated sheathing prices softened, with
thick panels taking the biggest hits. Producers were especially
eager to sell 19/32-inch. Western Fir plywood trading was quiet
through the holiday-shortened week. Sheathing prices lost ground,
but quotes spanned a wide range.
