Report
Sales of framing lumber sputtered as the week progressed. However,
many traders said activity was better than they had anticipated for a
week bracketed by U.S. and Canadian holidays. Many producers in the
West and Canada worked from order files of two weeks or more. Mills
raised quotes on the strongest items, but sales at the higher levels
were hit and miss. Prices in the South remained vulnerable, with
shipping problems, hot weather, and rain taking a toll on consumption.

Random Lengths Panel Market Report
Most structural panel traders described the week as better than
anticipated, considering it was interrupted by holidays in Canada
and the U.S. Plywood prices continued to edge higher, while OSB held
near last week¨s levels. Order files at most structural panel
plants were into mid- to late July. Most plywood buyers were upbeat
about the market, and said loads were flowing smoothly through the
distribution pipeline. OSB buyers usually took on a more cautious
attitude, and covered only immediate needs.
