Report
Post-holiday framing lumber trading was hit and miss. Some traders
were slow to return to their offices, and buyers covered what they
needed but steered clear of adding to inventories. Sales were
sufficient to keep most prices in western and Canadian species on an
even keel or tilted upward. Many of these mills worked from solid
order files and had minimal dimension available for prompt shipment.
Gains in these species more than offset lingering softness in Southern
Pine, and the Random Lengths Framing Lumber Composite edged up.

Random Lengths Panel Market Report
Plywood dominated structural panel trading, while OSB sales
lagged. The lethargic pace evident during last week¨s holidays
lingered in OSB markets. Modest field activity warranted
conservative replenishment. Southern Pine plywood sales were strong,
allowing mills to boost quotes and continue selling as order files
moved out. Order files at most mills reached the last week of July
or the first week of August. Activity in western Fir plywood was
brisk, with business peaking Wednesday.
