| Last week's action gave way to a more moderate sales pace. But
by most accounts trading was steady and sales about matched or
exceeded production at mills in the West and in Canada. Trading in
Southern Pine picked up, allowing producers to take a firmer approach
to pricing after several weeks of sharp losses. Weather continued to
wreak havoc in some markets; flooding in the Northeast and wildfires
in Texas and parts of the West preoccupied traders in those regions.

Structural panel markets were narrowly mixed. OSB sales were subdued
following the holiday weekend, and prices were static or off slightly.
Some buyers said they were fielding more incoming calls from mills
looking for offers. Most Southern Pine plywood producers reported
steady sales in the short week, and prices of key panels held or edged
higher. Western Fir plywood sales quieted from the pace of the two
weeks leading up to Labor Day weekend.
