Price trends in framing lumber varied widely between producing regions, leaving the overall consensus on the market muddled. Strength was most evident in western species, as buyers scooped up many of the prompt loads that mills offered. Southern Pine was mixed, with eastside producers marking a decent week of sales, while the westside was hampered in part by a heat wave. Western Canadian producers fell back on modest order files established the previous two weeks, holding mostly firm on their quotes.

Downward price pressure eased in structural panel markets. OSB trading was uneventful, but reduced output allowed most producers to keep prices on a firm footing. Action was best in the East. In Southern Pine plywood, discounts on rated sheathing that were prevalent early in the week had largely dried up by Friday. Mills firmed quotes and were more resistant to counters after extending order files into the week of June 20. Western Fir plywood producers found trading levels Tuesday that allowed them to clear floor stocks, build modest order files, and bounce prices off their lows for the week.
