| Traders marked off another week of
disappointing sales at all levels of the market. With month-end, some
producers attempted to push more lumber toward an unwilling customer
base, generating a weak and bearish tone. Traders in the South were
preoccupied late in the week with tornadoes that cut a deadly swath
across the region. The Midwest and Northeast battled flood waters,
while other regions endured a cool, wet, sloppy -- and slow --
transition to spring.

Demand for structural panels remained lackluster. Another quiet
week of trading left most prices drifting sideways. Mills quoted at
around published levels and turned down counters. A shot of activity
in the Southern Pine plywood market Thursday cleaned up many plants'
April output and put most order files out to the week of May 9.
However, it took severe price cuts in rated sheathing to attract
buyers. The western Fir plywood market was largely void of activity.
Curtailment rumors swirled.
