| Framing lumber markets continued
to languish. Given price declines of previous weeks, traders reported
a growing perception that downside risk was minimal. However, few
buyers stepped up to cover more than immediate needs. The overall tone
of the market remained soft, and the Random Lengths Framing Lumber
Composite Price slipped again. One exception to the trend was noted in
Southern Pine, with demand from Texas lifting westside #2 dimension
prices modestly. Discounts were available on the eastside.

Structural panel markets played to mixed reviews. The tone of the
OSB market improved in some regions, as scattered mill curtailments
lightened pressure on producers to find trading levels. Quiet trading
most of the week led to soft pricing by some Southern Pine plywood
producers from Wednesday on. Those producers that had output for
shipment next week were flexible with their prices. Western Fir
sheathing sales picked up briefly after a slow start to the week.
Trading was most active on Wednesday.
