| Trading was active as the new year
got under way. Framing lumber prices stayed on the upward track that
began in October and continued through the close of 2010. Many buyers
were concerned about getting left behind should prices continue to
advance. Yet caution was noted by both buyers and sellers, as they
assessed the market's staying power in early 2011. In several key
species, trading started the week faster than it finished it.

Panel market
Structural panel markets kicked into a higher gear. OSB traders
returned to their offices with inventories in need of attention.
Supplies at many retail yards were down to the pavement. Sales of
Southern Pine plywood heated up Tuesday and maintained a strong pace
through the week. Rated sheathing prices climbed rapidly, with many
mills aggressively raising prices once order files reached the week of
January 24. Western Fir plywood sales were stagnant as the week opened,
but built up through Friday.
