Report
Sales picked up in all framing lumber markets, and many prices
moved higher. Some mill salesmen reported that it was their best
sales week of the year to date. Order files often extended into
early to mid-June. While secondaries noted that demand was no
runaway, action in the field picked up noticeably. Traders said
recent mill curtailments were a factor. A strong week in futures and
higher taxes coming on Canadian lumber shipments to the U.S. in June
also contributed. April’s housing starts report helped fuel gains in
futures.

Random Lengths Panel Market Report
Structural panel markets shifted into high gear. A readily
perceptible change in tone helped OSB producers bolster order files,
and many prices posted their biggest weekly gains of the year to
date. A bullish report on U.S. housing starts in April caught
buyers’ attention Tuesday. The Southern Pine plywood market came to
life Tuesday and Wednesday with a solid shot of business.
Wholesalers purchasing long positions were among the most active
participants. Western Fir plywood prices firmed or posted gains as
an upbeat tone took hold Wednesday and carried into Thursday.
