Report
Wintry weather across most of the U.S. and Canada held trading of
framing lumber in check. Prices in most species and product groups
sagged, denting many traders¨ outlooks for a fast start to the year.
While the weather clamped down on sales, it also slowed production and
shipments. Some producers sat on their established quotes, telling
customers they didn¨t have cars to load; a heavier reliance on
trucks put pressure on this sector, as well. Amid a muddled but
overall weaker tone to the market, the Random Lengths Framing Lumber
Composite Price fell $6, to $397.

Random Lengths Panel Market Report
Structural panel sales were mixed, with severe winter weather a
constraining factor in many markets. OSB sheathing prices shifted
mildly in both directions. Mills in the North Central region opened
to modest counters, while producers in the Southeast firmed or
raised quotes. Southern Pine plywood producers reported a steady
enough sales pace to push order files solidly into the week of
February 17 or beyond. Western Fir plywood sales varied by mill and
were uneven throughout the week.
