U.S.: Lumber and panel market report ---- Week 16 2015

Random Lengths Lumber Market Report

Trends in framing lumber mostly pointed downward through the week. However, prices in most species found a firmer footing by midday Thursday. Increased action in the cash market was attributed in part to a limit-up move in futures on Wednesday. The jump in futures was driven by reports of increased offshore sales and speculation about production curtailments. One major exception to the firmer tone was Southern Pine; prices in this species slumped amid a slow pace. The Random Lengths Framing Lumber Composite Price fell $5, to $327 .

Random Lengths Panel Market Report

Price declines outweighed gains in structural panel markets. The tone of the OSB market showed modest firming in the second half of the week after one producer announced that it was taking steps to balance supply with demand. A moderate midweek flurry helped Southern Pine plywood producers alleviate prompt sheathing offerings. This was especially evident on the westside. Western Fir sheathing prices posted double-digit drops, as buyers in the eastern half of the U.S. generally remained absent from the market.
