China seen as major woodchip market
Australasian Business Intelligence - Philip Hopkins November , 2002

China's market for woodchips is expected to grow substantially over coming years, creating new opportunities for Australian exporters. The director of Gunns Plantations, Les Baker, says China's paper and pulp industries are now producing around 10 million metric tonnes of paper a year, and the sector has grown by close to seven per cent each year for the last decade. Such a rate of growth is the equivalent to an extra three world-scale pulp mills every year. Over the next 20 years, Australian hardwood producers are expected to export close to 13 million tonnes of woodchips to China, and Baker says that Australia will be well placed to increase export volumes to China to meet the new demand.
