First Quarter Furniture Imports from
China Leap 36.8% Wood and upholstered furniture shipments from China rose a straggering 36.8% during the first three months of the year. Overall, U.S. imports of furniture climbed 5.4% to $2.6 billion in the first quarter while U.S. furniture exports dropped 16.6% to $251 million. With imports of Canadian furniture dropping by 4.8%, China lengthened its lead as the United States' leading source of foreign furniture. Chinese manufacturers now account for nearly 32% of U.S. furniture imports. Also worth noting, Thailand passed Taiwan as the U.S.'s seventh biggest source of furniture and Brazil passed The Philippines for the ninth slot.
