Finnish forest industries¡¯ production down 7% in 2001

The downturn in the global economy during the latter half of 2001 substantially reduced demand for forest products and production in the forest branch practically everywhere. In Finland production in the forest branch fell by 12%in the fourth quarter of 2001. Total production was down 7% in 2001. According to information collected by the Finnish Forest Industries Federation from its members, paper and paperbo-ard production fell by 7.5% and pulp production by over 6%in 2001. Sawnwood production fell by about 5% and plywood production was also lower than the previous year.
