Germany: Sawmill production plummets – more countries follow
suit
German sawmill production of softwood products fell by nearly 14
per cent in the second quarter. Finland and Canada have also
reported falls in production, whilst Swedish sawmills have cut
production by 7 per cent so far this year.
The international decline in production affects several of
Sweden’s major competitor countries. In Germany, production of
rough-sawn softwood fell by 13.9 per cent in the second quarter
compared with the same period last year, to 3.49 million cubic
metres. This is according to preliminary figures from the German
statistical office.
Germany: Industrial beech log exports to Austria at a record
level
In the first eight months, Germany exported 496,000 m³ of beech
logs, i.e. 4% less than in the same period last year. Exports to
China, which consist mainly of sawlogs, remain stable at a low
level. Deliveries, mostly of industrial beech logs, to Austria
reached a 20-year high.
Germany: Beech lumber exports above last year’s level
From January to August, Germany saw its beech lumber exports
(incl. planed timber) grow by 1.6% compared to the same period
last year.
German pallet trade with a continued decline
Germany’s foreign trade in flat pallets showed a negative
development between January and August. Both exports and imports
were below 2025 levels.
