Kronospan has completed its acquisition of ZG Timber’s Sebeș
sawmill, formerly part of the Ziegler Group, securing more than
500 jobs and expanding its product offering in Romania.
The company, a global manufacturer of wood-based panels and
value-added wood products, has operated in Romania since 1998.
It has invested more than €600m in the country and currently
runs two production plants in Brașov and Sebeș, as well as a
logistics centre in the Port of Constanța and several wood
collection and recycling facilities.
The acquisition ensures the continuation of operations at the
Sebeș site, preserving employment for the staff currently
working there and sustaining a wider network of indirect jobs
across suppliers, contractors, logistics partners and service
providers.
With regulatory approvals in place, the sawmill will now be
integrated into Kronospan’s Romanian operations. The company
says the move underscores its long-term commitment to Romania
and reflects confidence in the country’s industrial capabilities
despite a challenging economic climate.
As part of its broader growth and diversification strategy,
Kronospan will add sawn timber from the Sebeș facility to its
product line. Its wood products are used domestically and
exported to 75 countries across Asia, the Middle East and the
Americas. The addition of sawn timber complements its existing
production of particleboard (PB), medium-density fibreboard (MDF)
and oriented strand board (OSB) in Sebeș and Brașov.
