German Wood Congress 2025: Securing Reliable Raw Wood Supply
On November 20, the German Wood Congress 2025 came to an end at
Motorworld Munich. With more than 380 participants and a fully
booked trade exhibition featuring over 50 companies, the
three-day industry gathering set new records. The event was
marked by close exchanges between forestry, timber, and
politics, and provided numerous insights into the key challenges
and future prospects for the forestry and timber industry.
“The record attendance of over 380 participants shows how
important a strong common platform is for the industry. In a
time of political and economic upheaval, we need places like the
German Wood Congress where challenges can be discussed and
common perspectives developed,” sums up DeSH President Dr.
Stephan Lang. “Especially in Bavaria, where the connection
between forests and wood has always been particularly strong, it
is clear how important constructive dialogue is for the future
direction of value chains. The great response confirms that the
Wood Congress offers exactly the framework that is currently
needed.”
Political priorities and strong impetus
One focus of the Wood Congress was on the political framework
conditions in Germany, Europe, and the federal states. In
partnership with the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs and
the Ministry of Agriculture, topics such as securing raw
materials, political framework conditions, and the strategic
importance of regional value chains were discussed in depth.
Contributions from Minister of State Hubert Aiwanger, Minister
of State Michaela Kaniber, and Parliamentary State Secretary in
the Federal Ministry of Agriculture Martina Englhardt-Kopf
provided insights into current political decision-making
processes and the importance of the industry for Bavaria and the
federal government. In addition, prominent speakers highlighted
important topics. Dr. Josef Braml, Caroline Bosbach, Vince
Ebert, and Urs Meier shed light on global developments, economic
challenges, and issues of modern leadership in their keynotes,
contributing to a multifaceted event.

The supporting program was also a resounding success: companies
from across the entire value chain presented their innovations
and services at the fully booked trade exhibition. Formats such
as the Timber Talk Podcast live, the networking breakfast, and
the traditional industry evening provided opportunities for
exchange and new collaborations. The congress kicked off with a
special event celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Bavarian
State Forestry Authority (BaySF), which was celebrated on
November 18 at the Augustiner Keller with over 460 guests. The
joint event underscored the close partnership between forestry
and the timber industry in Bavaria. “Every year, the German Wood
Congress sets new accents for professional and political
dialogue on forests and wood in Germany. Next year, we will
continue this exchange in Wiesbaden and once again invite the
industry to jointly shape the central issues of the future,”
concluded Stephan Lang.
