Norra Timber invests SEK 100 million in the Hissmofors sawmill – strengthening northern Sweden
[Jun 27, 2025]

The board of Norra Skog has decided to invest SEK 100 million in upgrading the Hissmofors sawmill. The investment is part of the forest owner cooperative’s broader strategy to build strong, modern, and efficient industrial operations.

Included in the SEK 100 million investment is new equipment for the post-sawing line, which will allow for an annual production increase of 10,000 cubic meters of sawn timber. Construction begins this summer, with completion expected in autumn 2026.

This investment marks the first of two planned steps to modernize the Hissmofors sawmill, which is operated by Norra Skog’s industrial branch, Norra Timber. The second phase is still in the planning stage and is scheduled for decision in autumn 2026.

“With the investment in Hissmofors, we’re taking another step in our strategy to operate technically advanced and efficient sawmills. At a time when other players are holding back, industrial investments like this are of great value to all our members,” says Henrik Jönsson, Industry Manager at Norra Timber.

The decision sends a clear signal of long-term confidence in the future of the Hissmofors sawmill.

“We’re proud to have earned the trust to continue developing Hissmofors. This investment secures jobs and shows that Norra Skog believes in our region here in Jämtland,” says Thomas Haiduga, Sawmill Manager in Hissmofors.

Henrik Jönsson also emphasizes that the investment helps strengthen Norra Timbers geographical balance.

“We’ve previously made major investments in our sawmills in Kåge and Sävar. Now we’re building a more balanced industrial portfolio, which will enhance our market position. This is a true win-win – for both our industrial operations and our forest owning members,” he says.

The investment is also part of a long-term effort to strengthen family forestry across Norra Skog’s operational area in northern Sweden.
