Roundwood prices in Finland reached their highest recorded
levels in May, with pine and birch pulpwood standing sales
setting all-time records since statistics began in 1995. Despite
brisk trade, May volumes were 14% lower than a year earlier but
still 15% above the five-year average. From January to May,
total trade volume was 8% higher year-on-year and 23% above the
five-year average, according to the Natural Resources Institute
Finland (Luke).
In standing sales, spruce logs averaged Euro 86 per m3 and pine
logs Euro 84, both increasing 1% from April. Birch logs reached
Euro 68. Compared to May 2024, prices for pine and spruce logs
rose 9% and 7%, respectively, while birch logs were up 4%. Log
prices are now at their highest real levels since 2007–2008.
Spruce pulpwood in standing sales averaged Euro 36, with pine
and birch pulpwood both exceeding Euro 34. These figures reflect
1–2% increases from April and year-on-year growth of 10–11%. In
delivery sales, all pulpwood types surpassed Euro 54 per m3,
with pine pulpwood rising 3% from April to Euro 54.45. These
prices are the highest ever recorded for pine and birch
pulpwood, with spruce pulpwood matching its 2007 record in real
terms.
