Södra has reached an agreement with Robert Jan de Waard and
Ronald Rijswijk to acquire all shares in the Dutch company
Smartt Timber BV.
Swedish forest industry group Södra has acquired 100% of
Smartt Timber B.V., its long-time sales partner in the
Netherlands and Belgium.
The move underscores Södra’s long-term commitment to the
Dutch market and marks a strategic step to strengthen its local
presence and customer offering.
Smartt, previously co-owned by Södra, has served as a key sales
channel for Södra Wood products in the region for many years.
With this acquisition, operations will continue unchanged, and
all employees, including co-founders Robert Jan de Waard and
Ronald Rijswijk, will remain with the company. De Waard will
continue in his role as CEO.
“Södra has been a fantastic partner, and this transition feels
natural,” said de Waard. “Customers can expect the same service,
product quality, and continuity they’ve known for years.”
The Netherlands represents a strategically important market for
Södra, where the company has held a strong position. By fully
integrating Smartt into its operations, Södra aims to deepen its
market engagement and expand into new segments.
“With this acquisition, we can strengthen our local footprint
and enhance our offering to customers in both the Netherlands
and Belgium,” said Andreas Jonasson, Marketing Manager at Södra
Wood.
The deal highlights Södra’s focus on long-term growth, regional
partnerships, and customer-centric service in key European
markets.
Södra is a leading Swedish forest industry group owned by over
50,000 forest owners. It produces high-quality wood products,
pulp, and bio-based energy, with a strong focus on
sustainability, innovation, and long-term partnerships across
global markets.
