Hessen, Land (state) in the west-central part of Germany - At
the Schl¨ıchtern oak timber tender on 11 March 2025, the quantity
offered was around 1,220 cubic metres, around 300 cubic metres
less than the previous year's offer.
A total of 1,220 cubic metres (fm) of high-quality oak timber
was sold at an average net price of €760 per fm.
Decline in supply due to external circumstances
Due to African swine fever in southern Hesse and climate-related
forest damage, less wood was offered than in the previous year.
While 1,589 cubic metres were still available in 2024, only
1,230 cubic metres were available this year. Of this, 99 % was
sold, only 10 fm did not find a buyer.
International participation and top prices
16 buyers from Germany, Austria, France and the Netherlands took
part in the tender. Particularly noteworthy is the top log from
the H¨ıttenberg municipal forest, which realised a total value of
€8,758 with a price of €3,020 per cubic metre and a volume of
2.9 cubic metres. The most valuable single log came from the
Altenhaßlau court forest and was sold for an impressive €10,400
(3.5 fm at €3,000/fm) - both logs went to the same German veneer
manufacturer.
