China¡¯s customs authorities have suspended imports of U.S. logs,
citing concerns over pest infestations. According to officials,
recent inspections detected bark beetles and longhorn beetles in
shipments, prompting measures to protect China¡¯s agricultural
and forestry sectors.
The American Hardwood Export Council clarified that the
suspension does not extend to lumber or other hardwood products.
This development follows U.S. trade actions, including a March 1
directive from President Donald Trump to investigate imported
lumber. Additionally, reports indicate that the U.S.
administration is considering a 25% tariff on international
lumber and wood products.
The suspension was announced just a day after the U.S. imposed
an additional 10% import tax on China, bringing the total tariff
to 20%.
