Sebeș, Romania - Kronospan, a leading manufacturer of
wood-based products, is pleased to announce the acquisition of
ZG Timber¡¯s Sebes plant from the Ziegler Group. The acquisition
ensures the continuity of operations at the Sebes facility,
safeguarding 500 local jobs following the insolvency of Ziegler
Holding GmbH at the end of 2024. The acquisition agreement was
signed on March 1, 2025, with the transaction expected to be
finalized by mid-year, pending regulatory approvals.
The acquisition underscores Kronospan¡¯s strong dedication to
both the local economy and its global operations. With the Sebes
plant¡¯s rich legacy, Kronospan is proud to secure the continued
operation of this important facility, preserving the jobs of a
skilled workforce and generating a positive social,
environmental, and economic impact in the region. This move will
also help to protect numerous indirect jobs across suppliers,
subcontractors, and companies associated with the sawmill¡¯s
activities.
As part of its strategy to enhance its product offerings,
Kronospan will now incorporate sawn timber products into its
global portfolio. As a new addition, sawn timber products will
complement the company¡¯s existing production of wood-based
panels, including particleboard (PB), medium-density fiberboard
(MDF), and oriented strand board (OSB) at its Romanian plants in
Sebes and Brasov. Furthermore, Kronospan plans to invest in
modernizing the Sebes sawmill to further enhance its production
capabilities.
In a time of economic challenges, this acquisition highlights
Kronospan¡¯s ongoing commitment to Romania as an attractive and
competitive hub for wood products production. The company
remains focused on expanding its operations, fostering
innovation and sustainability through products with a negative
carbon footprint, and providing high-quality products to
customers worldwide.
