FINLAND ¨C Koskisen has announced a new investment program to
enhance plywood production at its plant in Järvelä. The program
will run until 2027, with an initial phase of EUR 12 million
planned for 2025.
¡°We are focusing our investments on the Panel Industry,
following substantial investments in the Sawmill Industry,
including a new sawmill and log field valued at approximately
EUR 75 million,¡± said Jukka Pahta, CEO of Koskisen.
The company expects stable and growing demand for its wood
products, driven by global trends such as the green transition,
urbanization, and the development of trade and transport.
Koskisen¡¯s commitment to sustainability, through
carbon-sequestering wood products, plays a vital role in
advancing the circular bioeconomy.
The investment program aims to increase production capacity,
improve efficiency, and streamline internal logistics, with a
focus on automating key production stages. The plywood mill¡¯s
capacity will rise from 65,000 m³ to 85,000 m³ through
significant machinery upgrades.
¡°The goal is to enhance productivity, quality, and yield in
plywood production, requiring substantial investment in our
machinery base,¡± explained Tom-Peter Helenius, Director of Panel
Industry.
The first phase will focus on optimizing veneer production
processes. Koskisen¡¯s plywood mill specializes in high-quality
birch plywood for sectors such as automotive, transportation,
construction, and furniture.
¡°The current production line was built in stages, limiting
development. With this investment, we have the opportunity to
modernize and optimize the entire production flow,¡± added
Helenius.
Koskisen remains committed to sustainability, maximizing the use
of raw materials, including by-products like sawdust. In 2023,
the company reported revenues of EUR 271 million.
Koskisen is one the largest wood products companies in Finland.
