Latvia: Downward slide in softwood log prices halted In the third quarter of 2024, logs in Latvia became noticeably more expensive again across almost all assortments compared to the previous quarter. The downward trend of the previous months appears to have come to a halt. Only birch logs are continuing the downward trend of the previous months. Switzerland: Continuous supply of softwood logs not assured The early snowfalls have led to interruptions in timber harvesting in many places in eastern Switzerland. This will result in a bottleneck in the supply of softwood logs, especially fir and spruce sawlogs, in the coming weeks. Germany: Hardwood sawyers remain predominantly sceptical The business climate among hardwood sawyers brightened slightly in November 2024. This is due to slightly less pessimistic expectations. However, the vast majority (a good 70%) still see bad times ahead, while 30% see constant. Germany: Prices for hardwood lumber and logs on the decline The producer price index for hardwood lumber fell noticeably between January and September 2024, after experiencing only slight fluctuations in the course of 2023. Producer prices for beech logs continued the downward trend of the previous year in the first nine. Germany: Business for softwood sawmills improves slightly Overall, the business situation for German softwood sawmills improved slightly in November, but remains difficult. Around 30% of survey participants describe their current situation as poor, while the remainder describe it as adequate. Germany: Prices for sawn spruce timber rise faster than raw timber prices In the first nine months of 2024, both producer prices for sawn spruce timber and import prices for sawn softwood timber rose by 15 % and 7 % respectively compared to January 2024. Lithuania: Industrial timber prices above previous year's level Prices for industrial timber in Lithuania rose noticeably in the third quarter of 2024 for the tree species pine and birch. Spruce industrial timber, on the other hand, has become slightly cheaper. Compared to the same period last year, all prices have increased significantly. Lithuania: Coniferous log prices develop differently In the third quarter of 2024, pine log prices in Lithuania increased again compared to the previous quarter, while the price of spruce logs fell. Birch logs became more expensive compared to the previous quarter. |
