$214M in timber damage from
Helene, NC Forest¡¯s aerial assessment concludes |
The North Carolina Forest Service has finished its aerial damage assessment from Hurricane Helene and the numbers are pretty big. An estimated $214,000,000 in timber damage occurred across all state forest land. 822,000 acres of forestland received some sort of damage during the storm. 78% of the damage occurred on private property defined as individuals, corporations, and other ownerships. 21% occurred on public property, defined as US Forest Service and other public ownerships. 1% of the damage occurred on reserved lands such as parklands.
