LEAG takes over Swedish's
largest pellet producer Scandbio |
Zu Scandbio gehört unter anderem das Pelletierwerk Forsnäs in Schweden. The Swedish wood pellet producer Scandbio is on the verge of a change of ownership: The East German energy company LEAG signed the purchase agreement for Scandbio AB and its subsidiaries on 10 October 2024. With the planned acquisition, the German LEAG Group is expanding its activities in sustainable biomass production to the Scandinavian market. With Scandbio AB, based in Jönköping, LEAG, which is already one of the five largest German wood pellet producers with its German business, is now also acquiring the Swedish market leader for pellets. Dr Philipp Nellessen, member of the LEAG Executive Board, emphasised: ¡®In the age of decarbonisation, the demand for alternative, biogenic energy sources from sustainable sources is growing. With Scandbio, we are continuing our strategy of investing in an environmentally friendly energy supply and further strengthening our position in the biomass market. We are also very aware of the importance of Scandbio for the Swedish energy supply. It is therefore in our clear interest to maintain the existing market position and customer structure and to strengthen it through synergies within our growing group of companies.¡¯ The Lantmännen Group - an agricultural co-operative and Northern Europe's market leader in agriculture, machinery, bioenergy and food - is taking a further step with the sale in order to focus on its core activities: ¡®Scandbio has developed very well within Lantmännen in recent years. As part of the LEAG Group, which is a strong player in European energy production, Scandbio will find a suitable industrial home to further develop as an important player in the biomass industry,¡¯ explains Magnus Kagevik, President and CEO of the Lantmännen Group. The transaction will become effective upon closing and customary regulatory approvals. Source: leag.de |
