China's log import market shows
signs of rebound |
The latest data show that China's log imports in January-July 2024 amounted to 21.85 million cubic metres, a year-on-year decline of 6.2%; the import value was $3.818 billion, a year-on-year decline of 5.8%; the average price of imports was $174.72 per cubic metre, a slight increase over the same period in 2023, when the average price was $173.96 per cubic metre. July import data: Specifically in July, China's log imports amounted to 3.03 million cubic metres, up 50,000 cubic metres compared to the same period a year earlier, an increase of 1.8% year-on-year; the value of imports amounted to US$548,769,000, up US$63,430,000 compared to the same period a year earlier, an increase of 13.1% year-on-year; and the average price of imports was US$181.11 per cubic metre, showing a significant increase in the average price for a single month. The data showed that despite the overall downturn in the first half of the year, the single-month data for July showed signs of a rebound in the market. |
