In 2023, 4.9 million cubic metres of wood were harvested in Switzerland, which corresponds to a decrease of almost 6% compared to the previous year. There was a noticeable decline in the log harvest (-12%), as well as the harvest of industrial wood (-1%) and logs for energy production (-5%).

However, the other energy wood assortment (wood chips) continued to grow (+5%) and is becoming increasingly important. It now accounts for around 30% of the total timber harvest. The share of energy wood in the total timber harvest has doubled in the last 20 years. This is according to forestry statistics from the Swiss Federal Statistical Office (FSO).
