Timber Prices Spike in CEMAC's Q1 2024 Exports
[Jun 6, 2024]

From January to March 2024, global prices of forest products exported by the six countries of the Central African Economic and Monetary Community (CEMAC) rose by 1.9% quarter-on-quarter.

According to the Composite Index of Commodity Prices (ICCPB) released by the Central African States' Central Bank (BEAC), this upswing is largely driven by timber prices, which increased by 2.2% between the fourth quarter of 2023 and the first quarter of 2024. Meanwhile, log prices have only risen by 0.4% over the same period.

It's worth noting that the ICCPB is based on the prices of 20 basic products exported by CEMAC, representing 90% of its export values. The basket is divided into five major categories: energy products, metals and minerals, forest products, agricultural products, and fishery products.
