Poland Particle Board Imports In October 2023, purchases abroad of particle board decreased by -91.8% to 21K cubic meters, falling for the second month in a row after four months of growth. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a deep reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in January 2023 when imports increased by 75% month-to-month. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at 359K cubic meters in August 2023; however, from September 2023 to October 2023, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure. In value terms, particle board imports shrank markedly to $4M (IndexBox estimates) in October 2023. Overall, imports recorded a deep setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in January 2023 with an increase of 49% month-to-month. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at 45M cubic meters in March 2023; however, from April 2023 to October 2023, imports failed to regain momentum. Imports by Country In October 2023, Ukraine (21K cubic meters) was the main supplier of particle board to Poland, accounting for a approximately 99% share of total imports. From October 2022 to October 2023, the average monthly growth rate of volume from Ukraine totaled +1.4%. In value terms, Ukraine ($3.9M) constituted the largest supplier of particle board to Poland. From October 2022 to October 2023, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of value from Ukraine was relatively modest. Imports by Type In October 2023, waferboards (19K cubic meters) was the main type of particle board supplied to Poland, accounting for a 92% share of total imports. Moreover, waferboards exceeded the figures recorded for the second-largest type, oriented strandboard (OSB) (1.6K cubic meters), more than tenfold. From October 2022 to October 2023, the average monthly growth rate of the volume of import of waferboards stood at -17.3%. In value terms, waferboards ($3.6M) constituted the largest type of particle board supplied to Poland, comprising 91% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by oriented strandboard (OSB) ($372K), with a 9.3% share of total imports. Import Prices by Country In October 2023, the particle board price stood at $191 per cubic meter (CIF, Poland), jumping by 34% against the previous month. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in September 2023 when the average import price increased by 50% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $259 per cubic meter in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to October 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum. As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for Ukraine.
