In the first nine months of 2023, Austrian carpentry companies
saw the number of incoming orders fall by 8% year on year in
terms of value. In terms of volume, a decrease of 14% was
recorded in incoming orders and sales.
Timber construction sector with an increasingly negative
sentiment
At the end of the year, the economic sentiment among
Austrian timber construction companies became more negative
again. Decreases in incoming orders recorded in the previous
three quarters are taking their toll. Companies with a poor
business situation predominate by 24 percentage points. Only 11%
of entrepreneurs describe their business situation as good.
Austrian lumber exports on the decrease
From January to October 2023, Austria exported 4.5 million
m³ of softwood lumber and planed timber, i.e. 9% more than in
the same period of 2022, when exports had totaled 4.9 million
m³.
