According to the available customs data, in the second quarter of this year, China's timber import volume reached 18.83 million cubic meters, a year-on-year decrease of 1.09%; the amount reached 27.5 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 8.96%.

The overall import situation showed an upward trend. However, compared with the same period last year, there is still a slight decline. Compared with the first quarter, the volume of timber imports in the second quarter increased by 3.03 million cubic meters compared with the first quarter.

In terms of a single month, the number of logs imported by China in June reached 3.84 million cubic meters, a year-on-year decrease of 11.6%; the value reached 4.5 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 26.6%.

In terms of sawn timber, the volume of sawn timber imported by China in June reached 2.59 million cubic meters, a year-on-year increase of 14.3%, and the value reached 4.52 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 3.8%.

On the side, the demand for logs in the domestic market is still recovering, but the demand for sawn timber is recovering well.

In addition, under the support of rising raw material prices, shrinking inventories, and the market's sentiment of "buying up but not buying down", on July 21, timber prices in some parts of the country completed a "ten consecutive increase".

It seems that the price of lumber has started to correct, but some lumber traders believe that the market is just rising, and the demand has not recovered much. On the other hand, typhoons and high temperature weather are also affecting the production activities of the construction industry and furniture factories. Therefore, it is suggested that timber merchants need to pay attention to market dynamics at all times to avoid missing business opportunities.
