While some producers in the West noted a mild pickup in phone calls, other mills and
some secondaries reported a slowdown compared with the previous week. Under either
circumstance, framing lumber trading lacked any urgency, and competition for the available
business kept at least modest downward pressure on prices. The Random Lengths Framing
Lumber Composite Price slipped to $190, its lowest level since 1986 (without adjusting for
inflation).

Panel market
Structural panel prices shifted in both directions. While sales cooled overall
compared to last week's pace, the South continued to generate most of the action in OSB
markets. Curtailed mill output had an impact in all regions, but was most pronounced in
the South. In Southern Pine plywood, curtailments on the westside pushed key sheathing
prices up sharply. Sales were strongest for thick panels. Western Fir plywood producers
saw little relief to the pattern of sluggish sales and downward price pressure.
