The African forestry sector holds great potential for further development, especially if timber processing and downstream manufacturing of wooden products can achieve their desired levels. African government bans on the export of certain species of wood has impacted exports to a degree, although this should be counteracted by the requirement to process logs, rather than simply exporting them.

Governments believe that improvements in infrastructure, co-operation and regulations that are currently taking place and Africa抯 strategic position globally will assist in the continents increased export capacity.
