Samer & Co. Shipping, the main company of the group, was established in the Customs Free Port of Trieste in 1919, as an outpost of the British giant Ellerman & Wilson Lines, with the name of EWL Agency Company Limited. In 1981 the capital shares were taken over by the Italian shareholders, under the guidance and direction of the Managing Director Dario Samer, who had joined the company in 1952.
