Russia to triple timber output in 15 years

Russia may triple the volume of gross production in the timber sector in the next 15 years, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Ilim Pulp, a timber corporation, Zakhar Smushkin said at the 7th international forum 'Pulp and Paper Industry of the CIS and the Baltic states' held in St. Petersburg. The Chairman of the Board of Directors was quoted as saying "the goal of the sector is creating an added value inside the country and cut back lumber exports". "For that, clean-cut state policy is required", Smushkin stressed. According to him, another problem that drags on the development of the sector is a series of corporate conflicts around timber and lumber companies. According to, Smushkin, "the major problem is that we have no real state mechanisms to regulate processes in the sector".
