TACOMA, Wash., Jan. 28, 2002 (APA-The Engineered Wood Association) -- Eight plywood facilities in five states closed permanently in 2001, while two new OSB plants began operation during the year, reports APA-The Engineered Wood Association.
The closed mills were Advanced Wood Resources (COMPLY), Brownsville, OR; Collins Pine LLC, Klamath Falls, OR; Boise Cascade Corporation, Emmett, ID; Geertsen Group, Springfield, OR; Georgia-Pacific Corporation, Louisville, MS; Linnton Plywood Association, Portland, OR; Weyerhaeuser Company, Dierks, AR; and Willamette Industries, Inc., Ruston, LA. Georgia-Pacific Corporation, Russellville, SC, also closed last year for an indefinite period, and SDS Lumber Company, Bingen, WA, announced this month it plans to shut down its plywood facility for an indefinite period by March, but will continue to produce veneer.

The two OSB mills that began operations in 2001, meanwhile, were Georgia-Pacific Corporation, Fordyce, AR, and Nexfor, Inc., Huguley, AL. For more information, contact Craig Adair, 253-620-7418.
