Random Lengths Lumber Market Report

 

Additional and significant curtailments announced in British Columbia jolted the framing lumber market out of a five-week losing streak. While dramatic price volatility was limited to Western S-P-F, the impact bled into other species, with mills firming quotes and raising prices moderately in late trading. Aggressive increases by B.C. mills resulted in some $60-80 shifts in sales levels from the previous week to where mills quoted Thursday. Led by Western S-P-F, the Random Lengths Framing Lumber Composite gained $7.

Random Lengths Panel Market Report

 

Trends were mixed in structural panel trading. The announcements this week that two OSB plants were going to be curtailed indefinitely in Western Canada stirred buyers and reversed the downward trend in that market. Southern Pine plywood sales were slow to develop at previously reported prices, and many mills opened to counters to secure orders. As in prior weeks, most western Fir plywood producers tried to sell truckloads of sheathing with minimal concessions and push carload volumes with deeper discounts. The week got off to a slow start in Canadian plywood markets. Activity picked up Wednesday afternoon.
